If you own just about any type of car, there's a very high chance that you are familiar with xenon
lights. That is to say that you know what they are and what purpose they serve as far as vehicles are
concerned.
The benefits of Xenon Lights over Halogen Lights
In case you didn't know what they are, xenon lights are
simply headlights with a high-intensity-discharge that use xenon gas in order to give off a slightly bluish colored
light. They are known to be three times more intense when compared to the usual halogen headlights. As mentioned
above, xenon lights are offer a high-intensity-discharge kind of light, which is why the term hid xenon
light is a perfectly acceptable description of this lighting fixture. So what exactly is so good about these things
and xenon lighting in general?
What's so good about Xenon light kits?
The science behind them is relatively simple. Xenon headlights basically derive their name from the type of
inert gas that powers them, which is Xenon. Xenon is used to increase the amount of light produced by the act of
electricity moving through two electrodes. HID lights like xenon fog lights do not need to use a filament unlike
their incandescent counterparts. As such, they tend to last at least two to three times longer than your average
set of incandescent light bulbs. At the same time, you can get a lot more uniform intensity out of them, which
means that they're really a whole lot better. Other nice perks offered by xenon headlights are the fact that they
don't tend to have the gradual fade on the top of their projected light pattern unlike what you'll get with
conventional headlights. Also, they can make reflective highway signs glow a lot brighter due to the ultraviolet
light that they produce along the side.
Xenon lighting VS Halogen lighting
There is some sort of a war going on right now in the world of cars and it has to do with what type of headlight
is better - one that uses halogen or one that uses xenon. Most people don't really have a clue as to what goes on
behind the scenes of this debate. Satisfied halogen headlight equipped car users probably couldn't care less. This
is one of those cases where you really need to know the whole story before you can decide on choosing a verdict or
judgment.
Halogen lights have been the norm for cars everywhere for the longest time. However, Xenon lights have
proven to perform a lot better as far as actual lighting is concerned. Xenon headlights and xenon fog lights are
known to be able to produce up to 70% more light than Halogen headlights. And the light that it produces has more
of a white color instead of a yellowish one. As you can imagine, this would be better during the night time or in
dark areas so that you or anyone driving can see what lies ahead clearly. They may be more expensive, but Xenon
lights are definitely worth the money if you just try and look at the benefits they offer.
